Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- On-Call: Up to 4 call shifts per month (end of shift until 7 AM)
- Weekends: Up to 1 weekend shift per month (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Holidays: Required to work at least one holiday period (Christmas and New Year's specified)
- Floating: Must float within scope to meet facility needs, including between like units/sister facilities
Facility Overview
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- 21 Operating Room suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% RNs trained to scrub and circulate, 25% Certified Surgical Technologists
- Total staffed beds: 820
- Charting system: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Radiation Badge
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/living history
- SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every contract renewal
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if verification pending
- Primary source license verification (active, unencumbered, no pending actions)
- Nursys verification required for RN licenses
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Annual TB questionnaire and negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days)
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Competency exam for OR required
- Radiation badge process mandatory before starting clinical work
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
Additional Notes
- Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June-November, peak August-September), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams. Confirm availability accordingly.
- Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations.
- COVID-19 vaccination is highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or a declination form completed.
