Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: Evening, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (13:00 – 22:00)
- Rooms: 23 operating rooms
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
- On-Call: Yes, approximately 1 per week (may vary)
- Floating: Rare, only within skill set
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience
- First-time travel nurses not accepted
- General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
- Experience with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV)
- Cerner charting experience preferred
Case Experience Required:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Multiple injuries from motor vehicle accidents (MVA)
- Emergency Management: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
Equipment/Instrumentation Experience:
- Electrosurgical units
- Fiber optic light sources/cords
- Hana tables
Professional Knowledge & Skills:
- Administration of blood products
- Infection control
- Radiation safety
- Specimen handling and labeling
- Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedure
- Urinary bladder catheterization
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Trauma experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or in application process
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) preferred
- ACLS, PALS may be required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
- NURSYS verification required
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Photo for badge required before start
- Code of Conduct acknowledgment required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate healthcare provider, confirming ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity (or signed declination) required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
Additional Information
- Guaranteed hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- Parking permit required (no cost)

- All requested time off must be approved by manager
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Operating Room RN with a minimum of 3 years OR experience, including Level I trauma and a broad range of surgical case skills. The position requires evening shifts with on-call duties and weekend coverage. Candidates must hold or be in process of obtaining an Illinois RN license and meet comprehensive background, health, and certification requirements. Local candidates are not eligible.
