Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Special Care Nursery / NICU
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery with 10 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
- Care for babies with low birth weight, prematurity, respiratory and hemodynamic conditions, Bubble CPAP, tube feeds, feeders & growers, and substance-exposed infants
- Stabilization and transfer of infants below 32 weeks gestation
- No surgeries or ECMO cases on unit
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7 for vents, bubble CPAP, high flow; RNs must have experience troubleshooting these devices
- Telemetry monitoring available; RNs read their own strips
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and STABLE
- Experience working with neonate patients, including postpartum care
- Competent in postpartum couplet care (maternal and well newborn care) and able to attend both high and low risk deliveries and transition newborns
Schedule & Work Environment
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Friday & Saturday nights)
- Holiday rotation with permanent staff
- No call or standby requirements
- May float to Mother Baby unit
- Scrubs provided
- Orientation includes:
- 8-hour compliance day with manager
- 8-hour Epic electronic health record training
- 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation
Additional Notes
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignments
- No nurse aides or patient care technicians on unit
- Manager values open communication, adaptability, and quality work; provides feedback to travelers
- Flexibility in scheduling as long as departmental needs are met
This opportunity is ideal for NICU RNs with solid Level II experience who are comfortable managing complex neonatal patients and attending deliveries, with a preference for those also skilled in postpartum couplet care.
