Description

Registered Nurse (RN) Surgery – Night Shift Generalist

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:45 AM


Job Description

  • Seeking a well-rounded RN with the ability to scrub and circulate in surgery (bonus, not required).
  • Must be proficient in at least three of the following surgical services: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and General Surgery.
  • Experience in Level 1 Trauma is a plus.
  • May be required to precept new staff.
  • Holiday work may be required depending on staffing needs.

Required Qualifications

Licensure and Education

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year required.
  • Experience in Orthopedic Surgery, Neurology, and Vascular Surgery.

Certifications

  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine: Preferred but not required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with approval.
  • MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Tdap: Vaccination within last 10 years required; no declinations accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of full series or partial series with signed declination accepted; positive titers within 15 years accepted.
  • Influenza vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct-Mar) or must wear mask and complete specific declination forms.
  • Tuberculosis testing: 2-step PPD or IGRA within last 6 months required annually; if positive, clear chest X-ray and current TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit test for N95 respirators: Completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually.
  • Physical exam: Pre-employment physical within 1 year confirming ability to work without restrictions.

Background and Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 6 months including Social Security trace, county searches (7 years), national sex offender registry, and OIG exclusion check.
  • Ohio fingerprinting required: BCI&I check and FBI fingerprint check depending on length of Ohio residency. Attestation allowed if fingerprints pending.
  • Employment verification for last 5 years through third-party.
  • Education verification through third-party; international education requires equivalency documentation.
  • Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • I-9 verification confirming eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Completion of required safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance; annual renewal required.

Skills and Competency

  • Completion of clinical skills checklist within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Competency exam for relevant department with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, OSHA topics with minimum 80% score within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).

Additional Requirements

  • Non-expired photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Submission packet must include resume, 2 professional references (within last 2 years), job application, and employment history form.
  • Badge photo (headshot, shoulders up, plain background) in JPEG format.
