Registered Nurse – Orthopedic

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Orthopedic (43 beds, all private rooms)

Job Description

• Care for postoperative orthopedic, trauma (fractures), and general medical-surgical patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shifts: 1:4-5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-6
• Primary charge nurse present on each shift; house supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) support with ratios of 1:7-8
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips
• Equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow oxygen; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (day shift on Sat/Sun, night shift on Fri/Sat)
• No call or standby requirement
• Occasional floating to similar MedSurg units; travel RNs float first if needed
• Dress code: professional appearance, any scrub color allowed; tattoos and piercings must be covered
• Orientation: two unit-specific orientation shifts (12 hours non-billable)

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has started
• BLS (AHA) certification
• Minimum 1-2 years clinical experience preferred, especially in postoperative surgical and general med-surg care
• Must comply with drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
• Orientation hours are guaranteed but non-billable
