Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg (LTAC)
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) in a Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) setting
- Unit Size: 10 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Patient Types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Common Skills Required: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care
- RN Responsibilities: Titrate drips (e.g., Heparin), troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow)
- Respiratory Therapy: RT manages all respiratory equipment; RNs assist with troubleshooting only
- Telemetry Monitoring: Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs; RNs do not read their own strips
- Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs present at a 1:10 ratio
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Float Requirements: Med Surg nurses may float to ICU and Acute Rehab units
Shift & Scheduling
- Shift: Days
- Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill scheduling gaps
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill scheduling gaps
- Call/Standby: No current call or standby requirement (subject to change)
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation required
- BLS (AHA) required
- ACLS preferred but not required
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus policy)
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of permanent address
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
- Submission Requirements: Last 4 digits of SSN, middle initial, requested time off
Experience
- Specialty Experience: Medical-Surgical nursing in LTAC or similar setting
- Prior travel experience: Not specified/required
This position is ideal for RNs with Med Surg experience who are comfortable managing complex patients requiring respiratory support and advanced nursing care in a long-term acute care environment.
