Registered Nurse (Orthopedic) - Night Shift

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Orthopedic department with 43 all-private rooms
• Patient ratios:

  • Day shift (12 hr): 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Night shift (12 hr): 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Patient population includes postoperative orthopedic cases, trauma with fractures, and a wide variety of medical-surgical diagnoses
• House supervisor available 24/7; primary charge RN assigned each shift
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) support the unit with ratios of approximately 1:7-8
• Telemetry monitoring with Phillips telemetry pack monitors; RNs are not required to interpret strips themselves
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and heated high flow; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• Floating: Travel RNs are first to float occasionally to similar MedSurg floors
• Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed; professional appearance required; tattoos and piercings must be covered

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• Approximately 36 hours per week
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday night shift)
• No call or standby requirement

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided (two sessions)
• 12 non-billable orientation hours

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 1-2 years clinical experience preferred, especially in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Call-off policy allows up to 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay obligation
