Description

Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:6
  • Unit: Post-surgical medical surgical floor (18 beds)
  • Patient population: Adult and geriatric medical surgical patients
  • Common diagnoses/treatments: COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, infection
  • Float requirements: As needed to surgical, neuro, intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
  • Orientation provided twice monthly
  • Work environment: Busy floor requiring team players and strong patient advocates
  • Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, PCA pumps
  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner (experience required)

Schedule & Hours

  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
  • Weekend hours: Every other weekend
  • Call requirements: None

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience with Cerner Electronic Health Record system
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Charge nurse experience
  • Experience with post-surgical patients, especially orthopedic patients, is beneficial

Education

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required

Additional Notes

  • Dress code: Scrubs of any color acceptable
  • The unit cares for post-surgical patients and requires the ability to keep up in a busy environment
