Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, either 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend; scheduling accommodates requested time off with makeup weekends as needed
• Patient Ratio: Willingness to take up to a 1:7 patient ratio if necessary (rare)
• Floating: Floating within scope as needed
• Block Schedule: Not accommodated
• Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PICC line management experience

• Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet recognized
• Total staffed beds: 562
• Charting system: Cerner
• Scrub color: Any solid color
• Parking permit required, no cost

Additional Requirements & Compliance

• Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches required within 30 days of start
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
• Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
  • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
• TB testing (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray required if positive test within 1 year
• Competency exam and skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
• Photo for badge required within one week of contract signing
• Code of conduct acknowledgment required within 7 days of contract signing
• Parking permit form must be completed within 7 days of contract signing (unless using alternative transportation)
• References: Two professional references required

Scheduling & Time Off

• Manager reviews and approves requests for time off based on unit schedule
• Only one winter holiday off allowed per contract
• Up to 36 hours of call-off allowed per 13-week assignment without penalty; additional cancellations billed
• No on-call requirement

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• First-time travel nurses are accepted

This position is ideal for a Medical-Surgical RN with at least 2 years of experience, who is flexible with weekend work and patient ratios, and willing to expand skills in trach and laryngectomy care.
