Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Shifts are 3x12 hours, rotating between day (7:00 am – 7:30 pm) and night (7:00 pm – 7:30 am). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
- Current certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS Stroke Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
Orientation and Competency Testing
- Baseline competency exams for medication administration and ECG interpretation are required at orientation.
- Candidates unsuccessful on first attempt will receive remediation and retake opportunities.
- SafeMedicate prep materials provided prior to orientation.
Licensing, Background, and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check including FCRA-compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results must be on file before contract extension. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
- Nursys verification required within 30 days of start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start and updated annually; PAPRs require approval if needed.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
- Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B – titer, series, or declination with agency-approved exemption.
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval).
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Documentation and Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Two professional references required from recent employment within 1 year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for variable shifts and floating to similar units as needed.
- Must comply with all facility policies and complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but recent Stepdown travel experience counts toward Stepdown experience requirement.
This position offers a structured travel contract opportunity for experienced Stepdown RNs licensed in Ohio or Compact states, with comprehensive orientation and competency validation to ensure readiness for the role.
