Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: May float within scope depending on experience
  • First-time travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant patients
  • Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Night shifts, 3 per week
  • Holiday rotation included
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma center
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic

Important Notes

  • Radius Rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Pending State License: Must have SC RRT license in hand before starting
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period
  • Block Scheduling: Possible with prior approval (not guaranteed)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9) and valid Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment verification for the past 7 years
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if previously positive
  • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Color blindness test prior to start
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge

Additional Requirements

  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit (not typical for Respiratory Therapy)
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed before starting
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly preferred; if declined, a vaccination declination form is required
