Respiratory Therapist

Location: Miles City, Montana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 12 hours per day (36 hours per week)

Job Summary

Provide advanced-level respiratory care to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary system deficiencies or abnormalities under physician orders. Serve as a resource to CRT staff and may lead special clinical projects or assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, including obtaining arterial blood gases.
• Oversee and troubleshoot respiratory equipment to ensure optimal patient care.
• Initiate respiratory protocols and interventions based on assessments.
• Administer medications safely and evaluate their effects per protocol.
• Communicate patient progress and condition to physicians, nurses, and other departments.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
• Complete documentation accurately according to departmental standards.
• Monitor supplies and equipment status, reporting issues as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and departmental meetings.
• Act as a mentor and resource within the respiratory care team.
• May float to other departments within competency and qualifications.
• May be required to be on-call during scheduled shifts.

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

• Graduate of a National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the NBRC.
• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Montana.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year.

Additional Information

• Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
• Participation in quality improvement and research activities is expected.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
