Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM), Monday through Friday
- On-call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends
- Holiday Call: May be required
- Work Environment: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
- Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and OR competency exam required
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
- Annual flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted) during flu season
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days prior to start; annual TB questionnaire required
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation: Completion of online modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
- Radiation Badge Process: Must be obtained before starting clinical work; may take 5-7 days to arrive
- Local Radius Rule: 60 miles
- Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
Additional Notes
- Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2-week pay period (hours can be broken down)
- During hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September), all staff including travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams; travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses comfortable with general surgery cases and robotic assistance, seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity, teaching hospital environment.
