Registered Nurse – Med Surg

Location: Galesburg, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Overview

• Med-Surg RN needed for an 8-week travel assignment (contract length is 13 weeks).
• Work 12-hour night shifts.
• Unit has 37 beds (private and semi-private rooms).
• Patient types include COPD, Sepsis, CVA, COVID, Pneumonia, and various surgical cases (hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections).
• Patients may require Telemetry monitoring (monitored centrally with nurse notification).
• No ventilators on the unit; patients may be on BiPAP, CPAP, or high flow oxygen.
• Floating to other floors possible if competent; full patient assignment required when floating (including ICU).

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Night shift 1:5-6.
• Charge nurses usually available 24/7 and may take patient assignments.
• CNAs support with a ratio of 1:10-15.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7.
• Pharmacy available during the day; ePharmacist support at night.
• Hospitalist coverage during the day; APN and eHospitalist coverage at night.
• No IV team on the unit.

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation: 2 days floor-specific + 1 day hospital/EMR orientation.
• EMR system: EPIC.
• Self-scheduling available but manager assigns schedules due to short contract.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
• Holiday work may be required every other holiday.
• No call requirement.
• Scrub color: No specific color; approved logo gear with scrub pants allowed.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated.
• BLS certification (AHA).
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.

Additional Notes

• Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles.
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty.
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation).
