Registered Nurse - Surgery

Location: Olney, Illinois

Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of surgical patients under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. Responsibilities include patient assessment, planning and implementing care, documentation, and ensuring patient and staff safety. Must be able to take rotating call during weekdays, weekends, and holidays, with the ability to arrive on-site within 20 minutes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
• Conduct initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing evaluation.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide constructive feedback.
• Prepare the Operating Room (OR) suite, including supplies, equipment, and medications.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers (name and birthdate).
• Safely transport and position patients for surgery, following safety protocols and performing surgical timeouts.
• Support the surgical team during procedures by responding to requests for supplies, medications, and specimens.
• Transport patients to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or designated unit and provide thorough handoff to receiving nurse.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.

Additional Information

• Must be able to take call on a rotating basis, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to arrive at the facility within 20 minutes when on call.
