Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Night Shift)
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms.
- Responsibilities include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care.
- Perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens using ALGO 5 Machine.
- Float as sitter when needed within the hospital and to a nearby facility (~27 miles) based on census.
- No call required.
- Use EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Weekend requirement: work every other weekend.
- Holiday coverage required with flexibility for staffing demands.
- No RTO (request time off) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients
- Certifications (required):
- ACLS issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- AWHONN Intermediate or NCC Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM)
- Experience with circulating duties
- Experience in FHM triage
Shift Details
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Total hours per week: 36
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Complete a criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search and multiple verifications (SSN trace, national/statewide searches, education verification, MVR, etc.).
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions; this role may require compliance with fingerprinting procedures.
- Michigan Central Registry Clearance required (wet signature only) for L&D and OB Mother-Baby units.
- Complete I-9 and E-Verify documentation as per contract requirements.
- Provide government-issued photo ID and proof of name change if applicable.
- Submit a complete employment application/resume with 7 years of work history, no gaps.
- Provide one professional reference from a supervisor or manager.
- Complete skills checklist annually for the applicable unit.
- A physical exam within 1 year of start is required.
- Complete medication/pharmacology competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment with a passing score of at least 80%.
- Complete competency exam in specialty within 1 year prior to start with a passing score of at least 80%.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required.
- Annual TB questionnaire update required.
- Proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine required.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; exemptions not accepted.
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination required.
- 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start; no exceptions.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1; exemption requests must be submitted promptly.
- Fit mask testing required on-site with specific mask model; annual expiration applies for new contracts.
Facility Policies and Additional Requirements
- Review and sign the facility’s Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start.
- Complete Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
- Hepatitis B declination form required if declining vaccine or titer.
- Vaccine exemption forms must be completed and approved for medical or spiritual exemptions.
- Scrubs will be provided.
