Job Opportunity: PCU RN
Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with Telemetry monitoring.
- Must have at least 2 years of RN experience in a PCU setting.
- Must hold an accredited nursing degree from ACEN or CCNE.
- Resume must detail Epic system experience used in the past 12 months for each job.
- No Return to Office (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment.
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed at time of submission; no RTO accepted after submission.
- Block schedules considered on a case-by-case basis; candidates must specify if they require one.
- Solid black scrubs are required.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Telemetry Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system within the past 12 months.
- Experience with pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care.
- Experience in vascular surgery nursing.
- Experience in cardiac catheterization lab nursing.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA only (AHA RQI acceptable).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA only (AHA RQI acceptable).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification – Must be completed through Apex, Health Stream, or AHA.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license verified through Nursys within 30 days of start.
- Must provide and carry a valid government-issued photo ID.
Required Competency Exams & Checklists (to be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually)
- Unit-specific competency exam.
- Unit-specific skills checklist.
- Telemetry and EKG exam (passing score of 80% or higher).
- Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics (within 90 days of start).
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Fit test for approved N95 masks (3M 1870+, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small).
- Pre-employment physical within 1 year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- MMR (2 vaccines or titer; no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B (3 series or titer; signed declinations accepted).
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; no declinations accepted).
- 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) with no declinations accepted.
- Annual TB questionnaire (facility-specific form).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
- COVID-19 vaccine strongly recommended (medical/religious exemptions reviewed case-by-case).
- Influenza vaccine required October–April (medical/religious exemptions with approval).
Background & Verification
- Third-party education verification required.
- Criminal background check compliant with FCRA standards, including 7-year search and multiple databases, completed within 90 days of start.
- OIG, EPLS, and other exclusionary searches completed within 90 days of start.
- Social Security card or number verification required.
Additional Notes
- Resume must include detailed Epic experience for the past 12 months.
- No RTO allowed during the first two weeks of assignment.
- Block scheduling requests must be clearly stated.
- Solid black scrubs required on assignment.
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with telemetry skills seeking a 13-week long-term assignment on a night shift.
