Description
Registered Nurse (Post-Partum) - Travel Contract
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend & Holiday Requirement: Yes
Call/Standby Requirement: Yes, if on call due to low census
Floating Requirement: Yes, may float to Labor & Delivery for normal newborn transition
Unit Details
- Postpartum unit with 32 beds
- 11 Labor & Delivery beds and 7 antepartum/high risk beds
- 2 Operating Rooms
- 3 Triage beds
- Approximately 4,000 births per year
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
- Charge nurse available
- CNAs support the unit
- OB Hospitalist group in-house 24/7
- Neonatologist or NICU Advanced Practice Provider available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment available for NICU (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
- No telemetry or monitor techs; RNs read strips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity Perinatal
- Dress code: Hospital scrubs in L&D or personal scrubs on Postpartum
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Pre-eclampsia (hypertensive disorders)
- Gestational and insulin-dependent diabetes
- High BMI patients
- Multiples (twins, triplets, etc.)
- Advanced maternal age (AMA)
- Substance abuse disorders
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Post-Partum nursing experience
- Active Washington State RN license (pending license acceptable; temporary license takes ~4 weeks)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- COVID-19 vaccination required
Skills & Responsibilities
- Newborn transition care
- Post-delivery magnesium sulfate management
- RN responsible for titrating magnesium drips
- Unit-specific orientation provided, including nights and weekends as needed
