    Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (L&D)

    Location

    • Silverdale, Washington

    Contract Length

    • 13 weeks

    Unit Details

    • Birthing Center / Mother Baby unit
    • 34 total L&D beds
    • 2 OR suites for C-sections
    • 2 triage beds
    • 14 postpartum beds
    • Approximately 150-180 births per month (2,133 deliveries in 2022)
    • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:
      • Labor & Delivery: 1:2
      • Couplets (mother/baby): 1:3-4

    Required Qualifications

    • Active Washington RN license (pending license acceptable; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
    • BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required
    • Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience (1 year considered if candidate has multiple prior travel contracts)
    • Must have LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience
    • Comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
    • Able to assist with catching and transitioning babies
    • Must be able to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin

    Experience Requirements

    • Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
    • Director requests 2 years of references with each application

    Patient Population and Common Diagnoses

    • Gestational age 33 weeks and above
    • High-risk pregnancies including preeclampsia, diabetes, psychosocial issues, and positive illicit substance use

    Staffing and Support

    • Free charge nurse on both shifts (charge nurse takes assignment)
    • One surgical tech available 24/7
    • Patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
    • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP)
    • 24/7 OB anesthesia provider with call room on unit
    • Respiratory therapist assigned to family birth as needed
    • Telemetry/monitor techs available for PACU after C-section; RNs read their own strips
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity-perinatal

    Scheduling and Shifts

    • 12-hour day shifts
    • Block scheduling available upon request
    • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat)
    • Holiday rotation with permanent staff
    • Standby call with 45-minute response time when placed on standby

    Floating and Unit Scope

    • No floating to NICU or outside department
    • Labor travelers must function in postpartum with routine mom and baby competencies
    • Must be able to transition babies and attend low-risk deliveries

    Orientation

    • 8-hour compliance orientation with manager
    • 8-hour EPIC training
    • 2-3 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation

    Unit Policies and Environment

    • Surgical hand scrub policy:
      • Remove all jewelry from hands and forearms
      • No artificial nails or nail enhancements (tips, acrylics, gels, nail art, etc.)
      • Natural fingernails only, clean and well-manicured, no longer than ¼ inch beyond fingertip
      • No open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on cuticles, hands, or forearms
    • Scrubs and locker provided
    • Manager emphasizes quality work and provides feedback; travelers should be adaptable to workflows, policies, and feedback

    This position is ideal for experienced L&D RNs with prior travel experience seeking a supportive and well-staffed birthing center environment.
