Description
Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel)
Location: Florence, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Hours per Week: 36 (weekly guaranteed)
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend
Call Requirements: None
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit: Critical Care Services (2nd Floor)
- Home Unit: Critical Care Unit (CCU) with float to CVICU overflow, Critical Care Step-Down (CCSD), and Med-Surg as needed
- Number of Beds:
- CCU: 22
- CVICU: 14 (varies with surgeries/overflow)
- CCSD: 31
- Patient Ratios:
- CCU: 1:2 or 1:3
- CVICU: 1:2 or 1:3
- CCSD: 1:4 or 1:5
- Med-Surg: 1:6
- Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric
- Common Diagnoses/Treatments: Respiratory failure, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, post-operative GI disorders, CABGs, vascular procedures, and more
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse License (RN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Minimum 5 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Proficiency in:
- NG tube placements
- Critical care drips and titrations
- Arterial lines
- Central venous lines (including large-volume vas caths)
- Assisting with conscious sedation
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients and families
- Must have a smartphone for communication with physicians via secure app
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in a teaching hospital with resident physicians
- Experience in high-acuity ICUs managing advanced devices such as:
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
- Arterial sheath pulls
- Experience in SICU, MICU, CVICU, Neuro ICU, and PCU/Med-Surg
Equipment & Technology
- SpaceLabs bedside monitoring (continuous ECG, O2, respiratory, BP, CVP, PA monitoring)
- Baxter/Spectrum IV pumps
- Kangaroo feeding pumps
- Hill-Rom critical care beds
- Variety of ventilators
- Prismaflex CRRT machines
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps
- Blanketrols, Arctic Sun, rapid-transfusion, fluid warming, Zoll monitoring
- Electronic Health Record: Meditech (clinical access for ICU patients)
Orientation & Training
- Weekly orientation provided
- Required online learning assignments including NIHSS, ACLS/BLS, moderate sedation/analgesia, iStat, and glucometer certifications
Work Environment & Culture
- Trauma Level 3 facility
- Works well with team members and demonstrates excellent communication skills
- Ability to function and complete tasks effectively in critical situations
Dress Code
- Royal blue scrub pants required
- Neutral-colored or facility-logo T-shirts, sweatshirts, and vests allowed
- No unacceptable attire specified beyond scrub color requirement
Float Requirements
- Must be able to float between Critical Care Unit, CVICU overflow, Critical Care Step-Down, and Med-Surg departments as needed
