Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor – Pennsylvania, Fairview

Position Overview

  • Role: RN Supervisor responsible for overseeing nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) during evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Facility Type: Long-Term Care (LTC) / Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) with 300 beds across 6 units, including a secure dementia unit and a currently closed COVID unit.
  • Shifts: Evening and Night shifts, approximately 38 hours per week.
  • Shift Length: 8.25 hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, with option to work more.
  • Holiday Requirement: Required to work holidays if scheduled; schedule provided 2 weeks in advance.
  • Call/Standby: No call or standby; work scheduled shifts only.
  • Floating: None; position covers entire building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as building supervisor during assigned shifts, managing floor nursing staff.
  • Not assigned direct resident care tasks; functions outside staffing grid.
  • Monitor resident condition changes and issues.
  • Schedule outside services (labs, portable x-rays).
  • Contact physicians or nurse practitioners for resident needs after hours via chain of command.
  • Perform specialized nursing tasks exclusive to RNs: central line care, chest tube management, IV starts, admission orders, fall assessments.
  • Participate in care plan meetings primarily for short-term stay residents.

Patient Population & Care Environment

  • Residents: Adults 18+ in LTC, skilled nursing, rehab, dementia care, and hospice (2 dedicated hospice rooms).
  • Common treatments: IV medications including Lasix, Bumex, and antibiotics.
  • No telemetry monitoring or respiratory therapist on site.
  • Oxygen therapy equipment present (CPAP, BiPAP, O2, nebulizers, inhalers, tracheostomy care without ventilators).
  • Interdisciplinary team includes PT, OT, SLP, case managers, social workers, and dieticians.
  • Pharmacy available weekdays during business hours; emergency drug closet accessible to RN Supervisor after hours.
  • Electronic Medical Record system: PCC.

Required Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification.
  • Prior experience with PCC electronic medical records.
  • Experience measuring wounds (nurses measure only; wound staging done by nurse practitioner).
  • Valid RN license for Pennsylvania.

Orientation & Work Environment

  • Unit-specific orientation: 3 days.
  • Dress code: Clean, professional scrubs of any color except camouflage.
  • Timekeeping: Must use facility timeclock system.
  • Badge replacement fee applies if lost.

Additional Notes

  • Staffing ratios vary by unit; majority of floor nurses are LPNs.
  • Nurse Managers oversee units Monday through Friday; RN Supervisor role is primary leadership during evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • No floating required as RN Supervisor covers entire building during shift.
