ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Ontario, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Summary

• Provide critical care nursing in ICU units.
• Must be willing to float to other ICU campuses if census drops to maintain hours.
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1.
• Knowledge of medication scanning required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
• Minimum 2 years of recent, consecutive ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience in an acute care setting, with ICU experience within the last year.
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Scheduling & Time Off

• Every Other Weekend (EOW) required.
• Time off requests limited to no more than 7 days.
• Missed shifts must be made up.
• If scheduled to work during Return to Office (RTO) weekend, traveler must find coverage.
• If placed on-call, must return to facility within 1 hour.

Compliance & Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check required upon hire; updated annually.
• OH BCI and FBI fingerprint attestation required within 12 months of start; updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated with contract renewals.
• Education verification required for highest level of education.
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; updated annually and after breaks in service of 2+ months.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months of start; updated annually.
• Fit mask testing required prior to start; must be fitted to approved mask types.
• TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination.
• Negative TB test (2-step PPD or equivalent) within 12 months; updated annually.
• Immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (9/29–3/31) unless approved medical or religious exemption is on file. Exempted candidates must mask during flu season.

Orientation & Training

• Completion of online Healthstream modules required by specified deadlines, including:

  • Wounds
  • Clinical RN Onboarding (Policy and Organ Donation reviews)
• Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start; must score 80% or higher.
• Review and sign unit-specific new employee packet and job description prior to start.
• Skills check-offs for specific procedures (e.g., Stat Strip Nova Glucometer, Aseptic Compounding IV Medications) completed onsite during first week.
• New hire orientation and sign-off forms must be completed before documentation due date.

Documentation & References

• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
• Complete employment application/resume required.
• Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year.
• NURSYS license verification required within 30 days of start.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must carry photo ID during shifts.
• Must comply with attendance policy and facility-specific traveler expectations.
• Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire required and managed per facility instructions.
• Radiation badges issued to applicable candidates by the client.
