Occupational Therapist - Rehab Inpatient
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients of all ages in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. Acts as a clinical resource and role model for staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient transfers with assistance as needed (bed, chair, floor).
- Use safe and appropriate body mechanics to prevent injury.
- Design and adjust individualized plans of care integrating goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plans.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
- Evaluate clinical findings to determine therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
- Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
- Screen patients to assess the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
- Utilize support personnel according to legal and ethical guidelines; monitor and provide feedback on their care delivery.
- Document evaluations, plans of care, goals, treatment modifications, and patient responses per department policy.
- Implement functional, patient-centered intervention plans considering emotional and functional needs.
- Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
- Use standardized outcome measures consistently to reflect functional performance.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation; provide education and family training as needed.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) and rehabilitation technicians in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Communicate patient status, activity/transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly with the medical team.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Illinois
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy
