Cath Lab Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Columbus, Ohio


Position Overview

  • Role: Registered Nurse – Cath Lab specialty
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Schedule:
    • Day shift, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (9.5 hours/day)
    • Call required: one night per week and every 4th weekend (call specifics depend on skill set)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit and Patient Care Details

  • Work areas include:
    • Cath Lab (diagnostic, PCI - Level 2 lab)
    • EP Lab (device changeout, upgrades, ICD, pacer)
    • Vascular Angiogram
    • Interventional Radiology (simple procedures)
  • Patient diagnoses commonly encountered:
    • Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), STEMI, NSTEMI
    • EP devices and heart arrhythmias
    • Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
  • Special equipment used:
    • Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), temporary pacer
    • Shockwave, DFR, IVUS, FFR

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 3 years of Cardiac Cath Lab nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
  • Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Required health documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, or TB questionnaire
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • References: Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Completion of Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Reporting training and form
  • Annual ethics and compliance policy review and acknowledgment
  • Fingerprinting results must be submitted and approved prior to start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
