Description

Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, may flex to 1:5 in emergencies
Unit Type: Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit (includes Progressive Care and Telemetry patients)
EMR System: Cerner


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a Stepdown/Immediate Care Unit with variable patient acuity.
  • Must be able to read cardiac telemetry strips.
  • Weekend block schedules considered only for Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon.
  • Scrubs not provided; dress code includes burgundy and/or white attire.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • Proficient in telemetry monitoring and able to read cardiac telemetry strips
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • CHEMO certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Orientation & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required and must be current.
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (per facility standards)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (mandatory during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination required
  • Color blindness testing and competency exams as applicable.
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules and Cerner EMR training prior to orientation.
  • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed by facility deadlines.
  • Submission packet must include:
    • Candidate profile/work history
    • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
    • Minimum 2 clinical manager/charge nurse references from past 2 years
    • RN license verification (recently pulled)
    • Copies of all required certifications (no pending certificates allowed)

Additional Notes

  • Holiday time-off requests should be limited to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays.
  • Candidates must complete facility-required forms including background drug screen consent, non-disclosure agreements, parking pass, and contractor forms prior to start.
  • Workers compensation documentation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Candidates working in Cath Lab roles (if applicable) have additional requirements (not applicable for this Stepdown RN role).

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic Stepdown unit with a focus on telemetry and progressive care patients, requiring solid clinical skills and certifications.
