Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Assignment on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Rotating shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day: 7:00am–7:30pm, Night: 7:00pm–7:30am). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
- Minimum 36 hours per week.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
- Current certifications required:
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
Required Certifications & Testing
- Certifications must be current and renewed prior to start if expiring within 30 days.
- Baseline competency exams (medication and ECG) are required at orientation for all bedside RNs except OR RNs.
- Annual renewal of NIH Stroke Certification required.
Licensure & Background Checks
- Background check required prior to assignment start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Fingerprints must be completed under nursing-specific code. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually. PAPRs require approval if needed.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required with official documentation:
- Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination (agency-approved exemptions accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; exemptions require agency approval)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant tests not accepted).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Documentation & Onboarding
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start; must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Photo for badge may be required.
- Resume/CV with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within one year of start date required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Notes
- Candidates may be required to float to other units caring for similar patient populations.
- Orientation includes competency testing with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
- Agency-approved medical and religious exemptions for immunizations and fit mask are accepted but require facility review and approval.
This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with recent acute care experience who hold the required licenses and certifications and are comfortable with rotating 12-hour shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting.
