Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location

  • Charlottesville, Virginia

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per week: 48
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday off
  • Unit uses a self-scheduling model (manager will explain; no guaranteed preferred schedule)
  • No return to office (RTO) allowed for July 4th holiday

Unit and Patient Population

  • Children's hospital
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and abuse registry search (if assigned to certain units)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Official transcript or diploma required (photocopies not accepted)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold within 12 months (Chest X-ray if positive)
    • Annual TB questionnaire if prior positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or antigen titer if antibody low/negative (no declinations)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required (declination accepted but must be documented)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet job demands (signature required)
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation (not required for NICU but noted for adult inpatient roles)
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Facility-specific forms including release authorization, employee health screening, traveler compliance, and fit testing acknowledgment (fit testing done onsite if required)
  • Fingerprinting required for behavioral health or specific units; results must be received prior to start

References and Evaluations

  • Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over 1 year
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation must be updated annually if applicable
