Registered Nurse (ER) - Michigan, Iron Mountain
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
- Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day and Evening shifts available
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Typical Patient Volume: 40-60 patients per day
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4 during the day; fewer nurses at night (2 RNs after 3 AM until 7 AM)
Department & Environment
- Trauma Level IV (no stroke or STEMI receiving; these patients are sent out)
- 14 beds with 2 trauma bays
- Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms
- Separate triage area with 2 rooms; travelers may triage after facility policy review
- Holding areas both within ER and attached Acute Care Unit rooms for overflow
- Psych/seclusion rooms available; any room can be converted as needed
- No 24/7 in-house security; security coverage via maintenance, local police, and internal code backup
- ED Physician coverage 24/7 in-house, supported by mid-level providers
- No monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips via central monitoring station
- X-Ray and CT available 24/7 within close proximity
- Phlebotomy services available 24/7; RNs do not draw labs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS (issued by American Heart Association), PALS (issued by American Heart Association), TNCC
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
Responsibilities & Skills
- Care for a variety of patients including trauma, STEMI, stroke, motor vehicle accidents, and agricultural injuries
- Administer variable drips and treatments as needed
- Participate in triage after orientation and policy review
- May float to inpatient units to assist as needed
- Collaborate with nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters who provide task support but no dedicated ER team nursing model
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Shifts offered: 7, 10, 12, 3, and 7 (all 12-hour shifts)
- Scheduling is manager-made with attempts to avoid alternating 1-on/1-off patterns; variable start times may be required
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: approximately 2 out of 3 winter holidays, usually every other holiday during contract
- Call or standby is voluntary and unpaid
- Dress code: any solid color, clean and professional attire
Orientation & Onboarding
- Computer-based training plus 2 days of floor orientation
- Additional day focused on policies and department-specific procedures
- Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
Additional Notes
- If previously employed by this health system, clinicians must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment to be eligible for this assignment
