Description
Cath Lab Tech - Travel/Contract
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Day shift, options: 4x10 hour days (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) or 5x8 hour days (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM) as needed
On Call: Required 1 weekday and 1 weekend day every 4-6 weeks, including holidays
Job Summary
- Perform endovascular procedures in diagnostic and interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular disease under physician supervision.
- Monitor patient hemodynamic status, document procedures, and assist by scrubbing during interventions.
- Maintain sterile field, set up equipment, prep access sites, and recognize life-threatening arrhythmias.
- Participate in mandatory in-services, staff meetings, self-education, and competency assessments.
- Use specialized equipment including Siemens devices and PACS.
- Work includes diagnostic cardiac cath lab, interventional cardiac cath lab, and special procedures.
Required Experience & Skills
- Experience: 1.5 to 2 years in Diagnostic Cardiac Cath Lab, Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab, and Special Procedures.
- Preferred Experience: Electrophysiology (EP) Lab and Interventional Radiology.
- Skilled in cardiac cath lab procedures such as:
- Cardiac stent placement
- Diagnostic catheterizations (adult)
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- IABP placement/removal
- Impella insertion
- Laser assisted procedures
- Left and right heart catheterization
- Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and angioplasty (PTCA)
- Pulmonary artery (PA) line insertion
- Rotablader atherectomy
- Temporary pacemaker placement
- Vascular procedures including angioplasty, embolization, IVC filter placement, and upper/lower extremity angiography.
- Familiarity with vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose).
- Professional knowledge of isolation precautions and rapid response team use.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Technologist (RT) license in Radiologic Technology (ARRT R.T.(R)) required to operate fluoroscopy machines in West Virginia.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required prior to start.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required prior to start.
- ARRT certification required; ARRT CI certification preferred.
- State Medical Imaging License for West Virginia required; license pending may be submitted but typically obtained 1-2 weeks before start.
- Prior travel experience is required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract).
Physical Requirements
- Medium work: frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs, maximum lifting up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment & Tools
- Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner.
- Scrubs provided.
Additional Requirements
- Must carry government-issued photo ID during work hours.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG required and updated annually.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required.
- Competency exams and color blindness testing required.
- Completion of facility-specific learning modules and Cerner training prior to orientation.
- Physical exam and immunization documentation required, including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Up-to-date vaccinations or titers for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, tetanus/diphtheria/Tdap
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination required
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 30 days of start and annually.
- Proof of two clinical references within the past 2 years required.
- Skills checklist updated annually required.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in West Virginia
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
- Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year
- Experience as a Special Procedures Technologist
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ARRT certification
