Description
Radiographer (Radiologic Technologist) - Michigan, Rochester
Job Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, perform radiologic procedures to evaluate pathological conditions as ordered by a physician. Utilize independent judgment to determine appropriate radiographic techniques, positioning, and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Explain examination procedures and prepare patients for imaging.
- Review clinical data and obtain additional patient history as needed.
- Prepare procedure rooms and maintain supplies.
- Analyze patient anatomy, set up equipment, and perform radiologic procedures using manual controls.
- Administer intravenous contrast media when applicable and monitor patients for reactions.
- Apply radiation protection principles, including shielding and dose reduction techniques.
- Prepare and maintain sterile equipment and follow infection control protocols.
- Ensure patient safety, privacy, comfort, and legal/ethical rights during care.
- Complete all required documentation, including worksheets, logs, patient records, and radiology information system (RIS) entries.
- Manage image quality and exceptions in PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
- Review clinical protocols with Radiologists before procedures.
- Teach and educate new hires and students as needed.
- Demonstrate teamwork, open communication, positive attitude, respect for diversity, and customer service excellence.
Schedule
- Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- 40 hours per week
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Work in hospital settings including fixed units and mobile units in areas such as inpatient departments, operating rooms, and emergency rooms.
- Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and contagious patients.
- Occasional lifting/moving of equipment or patients over 10 lbs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Registered in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry eligible (must obtain registry within 6 months of hire).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must maintain required continuing education hours.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong customer service skills including communication, teamwork, motivation, sensitivity, respect, and ownership.
- Personal qualities: self-directed, flexible, committed to teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, open to new experiences, and respectful of diversity.

- No explicit years of experience stated; registry eligibility accepted with timely completion.
Additional Notes
- Overtime is billable after 48 hours.
- Must adhere to department protocols and safety standards consistently.
