Description
Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule & Shift Details
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Schedule includes weekdays, some weekends, and rotating holidays
- On-call duties required
- Patient ratio approximately 1:3
- May be assigned to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Requirements/Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must be completed prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Background & Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- License verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1–3/31); mask required if declining
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond (3M 1860/1870+, Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Must complete Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training and submit certificate prior to start (updated annually)
- Must review and acknowledge ethics and compliance policies annually
- Background acknowledgement form required for subcontractors prior to start
- Fingerprinting proof required for subcontractors (physical proof of completion or photos of fingerprint cards)
Notes
- Parking permits available for agency staff (details not included here)
- Fingerprinting results processing may take 1–2 weeks; delays possible if background hits occur
- New fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or prior results are older than 1 year
