Respiratory Therapist - Nebraska (Fremont)
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Location: Fremont, Nebraska
- Contract Length: 12 weeks
- Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, typically 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours (3 shifts per week)
- Work Setting: Inpatient (MedSurg, ER, ICU)
- Patient Population: Mainly adults, some pediatrics, rarely neonates (critical neonates stabilized and transferred)
- Typical Caseload: Variable number of treatments daily (ranges from about 10 to 30 treatments), including scheduled and PRN treatments
- Team: Usually 2-3 RTs scheduled per shift, covering the entire hospital 24/7
Job Responsibilities
- Manage ventilators, including Draeger vents
- Provide treatments such as nebulizers, breathing treatments, Bipap (V60), heated high flow oxygen (Opticflow), and Respironics Clap
- Draw arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Perform EKGs when Diagnostic department is closed
- Patient teaching for inhaler use as needed
- Assist with intubations (independent intubation not required)
- Follow protocols for assessments and treatments
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week (block scheduling possible if it fits the department’s needs)
- Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights, Sat/Sun for days)
- Holiday shifts available on a voluntary basis
- No mandatory call or standby; extra shifts offered on a sign-up basis
- Dress code: wine/burgundy/maroon scrubs preferred (Cherokee brand favored)
Required Qualifications
- Must hold current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Certifications required: BLS (required), ACLS (strongly preferred), PALS and NRP (preferred)
- Experience working in a similar-sized facility and setting is required
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required
Orientation & Support
- Department-specific orientation tailored to skills and experience
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical records is beneficial
- Respiratory staff report to clinical coordinators (no lead therapist role)
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7, possibly APRN with eICU backup
This opportunity is ideal for RRTs seeking a fast-paced inpatient role with a variety of adult and some pediatric patients, working in a supportive team environment with flexible scheduling options.
