Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM – 11:00 PM)
- On-call: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM on weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: Up to 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday period (Christmas Dec 24–26, New Year’s Dec 31–Jan 1)
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- Operating Room: 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Parking: Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage access; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June–November; peak activity in August and September
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Fit Testing: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Physical Exam: Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be accepted if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Radiation Badge: Required for OR RNs; candidates cannot start without badge, which may take 5-7 days to process
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours on a computer (not mobile)
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform access provided after clearance
- Badge Photo: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required by Wednesday before start
- COVID and Flu vaccination documentation must be uploaded into the facility’s system prior to start
- Travelers must comply with facility policies and complete all required documentation and training before starting
