Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM – 11:00 PM)
• On-call: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM on weekends)
• Weekend Requirement: Up to 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks
• Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday period (Christmas Dec 24–26, New Year’s Dec 31–Jan 1)
• Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
• Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
• Operating Room: 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
• Charting System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
• Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
• Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
• Parking: Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage access; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
• Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June–November; peak activity in August and September

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
• Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
• Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
• Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
• Fit Testing: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
• Physical Exam: Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations & Titers:

  • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if prior positive
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be accepted if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• Radiation Badge: Required for OR RNs; candidates cannot start without badge, which may take 5-7 days to process

Orientation & Facility Specifics

• Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours on a computer (not mobile)
• First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform access provided after clearance
• Badge Photo: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background required by Wednesday before start
• COVID and Flu vaccination documentation must be uploaded into the facility’s system prior to start
• Travelers must comply with facility policies and complete all required documentation and training before starting
