Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 3.5 patients
- Documentation System: EPIC
- Medication System: Pyxis
- Float Requirement: Yes
- Weekend Work: Every other or every third weekend
- Orientation: 36 hours required
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs provided
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience in a Level I Trauma Center, stroke-certified, and STEMI-certified facility preferred
- Comfortable with triage, dysrhythmia interpretation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, ventilated patients, trauma cases, psych holds, and pediatric emergency care
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending results)
- Fit mask testing: Required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond; onsite fit testing available if needed

- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training and reporting forms required prior to start and updated annually
- Dress code and hand hygiene policies must be reviewed and signed
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear; all hits reviewed including dismissed charges
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room on the night shift in Columbus, Ohio. The role requires at least 2 years of ED experience, including recent experience within the last year, multiple certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIH Stroke Scale, and a valid Ohio RN license. Candidates must be comfortable managing a variety of emergency situations including trauma and pediatric emergencies. First-time travelers are welcome. Comprehensive background checks, health screenings, and compliance with facility-specific policies are mandatory.
