Description

Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Florence, Alabama
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Hours per Week: 36 (weekly guaranteed)
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend
Call Requirements: None


Unit & Patient Care Information

  • Unit: Critical Care Services (2nd Floor)
  • Home Unit: Critical Care Unit (CCU), with float to CVICU, Critical Care Step-Down (CCSD), and Med-Surg as needed
  • Beds:
    • CCU: 22 beds
    • CVICU: 14 beds (variable)
    • CCSD: 31 beds
  • Patient Ratios:
    • CCU: 1:2 or 1:3
    • CVICU: 1:2 or 1:3
    • CCSD: 1:4 or 1:5
    • Med-Surg: 1:6
  • Patient Population: Adult and Geriatric
  • Common Diagnoses/Treatments: Respiratory failure, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, post-operative GI disorders, CABGs, vascular procedures, and more
  • Equipment Used:
    • SpaceLabs bedside monitors (ECG, O2, respiratory, BP, CVP, PA)
    • Baxter/Spectrum IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps
    • Hill-Rom critical care beds
    • Variety of ventilators
    • Prismaflex CRRT machines
    • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)
    • Blanketrols, Arctic Sun, rapid-transfusion devices, fluid warming, Zoll monitoring
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR): Meditech with clinical access for ICU patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
  • Minimum 5 years of Coronary Care Unit (CCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Orientation & Training

  • Weekly orientation provided
  • Required to complete online learning assignments including NIHSS, ACLS/BLS, moderate sedation/analgesia, iStat, and glucometer certifications

Work Environment & Culture

  • Works well with team members and demonstrates excellent communication skills
  • Ability to function and complete tasks effectively in critical situations

Dress Code

  • Scrub color: Royal Blue (scrub pants must always be royal blue)
  • Neutral-colored solid t-shirts, sweatshirts, or vests allowed if plain or with facility logo

Float Requirements

  • May float between Critical Care Unit, CVICU overflow, Critical Care Step-Down, and Med-Surg departments depending on staffing needs
