Description
Surgical Technologist 1 - OR
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day (4x10-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
On Call: Required
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Maintain a sterile environment by applying principles of asepsis.
- Assist with surgical procedures by scrubbing in and supporting the surgical team.
- Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment to ensure efficiency.
- Participate in room turnover and setup for subsequent patients.
- Perform sterilization, disinfection, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assist with patient positioning and use of positioning devices during procedures.
- Precept medical students, residents, and other learners during scrubbing duties.
- Maintain safety and adhere to legal and hospital policies.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Surgical Technologist license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Experience as a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology or Certificate of completion of a Surgical Technology program
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology relevant to surgical patient care.
- Understanding of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers as applied in surgical settings.
- Strong problem-solving skills related to surgical procedures.
- Ability to apply sterile technique principles during surgical procedures.
- Knowledge and practice of perioperative teamwork and patient care concepts.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Day shift with 4 ten-hour shifts per week.
- On-call duties required.
- Position involves working in a Cardiovascular Operating Room setting.
