Description

Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Travel Assignment

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Nights (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Call Requirements: None
Weekend Schedule: Every third weekend


Unit Overview

  • Unit Type: Medical/Surgical, Trauma Neuro ICU
  • Location: 2nd Floor, East Building
  • Number of Beds: 17
  • Staffing per Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 6-7 RNs, 1-2 Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), sitters as needed
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2; up to 1:4 for step-down or bed-hold patients depending on acuity
  • Equipment Used: Ventilators, Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), monitors, IV pumps, etc.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Medical/Surgical nursing experience
  • Certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Must pass EKG competency for rhythm interpretation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) certification

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Endotracheal intubation
  • CRRT management
  • Targeted Temperature Management (TTM)
  • Administration of stroke tPA
  • Foley catheter insertion and care
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Defibrillation and cardioversion
  • Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) assistance
