Description
Registered Nurse (NICU / Special Care Nursery) - Travel Contract
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit: NICU / Special Care Nursery (Level II)
- Beds: 10
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
- Neonatologist Coverage: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy: RT in house 24/7; RNs must have experience with vents, bubble CPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
- Telemetry: Tele monitoring available; RNs are required to read their own strips
- Floating: May float to Mother Baby unit
Schedule & Work Hours
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
- Shift Times: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (Days) and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Nights)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Saturday & Sunday; Nights: Friday & Saturday)
- Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff
- Call/Standby: None
- Scheduling: Flexible as long as department needs are met
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Experience working with neonate patients, including high risk and maternal-fetal patients
- Postpartum experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- STABLE certification
Patient Population & Care Focus
- Specialized care for babies with:
- Low birth weight
- Prematurity (below 32 weeks stabilized and transferred)
- Respiratory conditions and hemodynamic issues
- Use of bubble CPAP, tube feeds, and nutritional support (feeders & growers)
- Substance-exposed newborns
- No surgeries or ECMO cases on this unit
Orientation & Onboarding
- 8-hour compliance orientation with manager
- 8-hour Epic electronic health record training
- 2-3 shifts (12 hours each) of unit-specific orientation
Policies & Additional Notes
- Surgical hand scrub policy requires:
- Removal of all jewelry on hands and forearms
- No artificial nails or nail enhancements (tips, acrylics, gels, etc.)
- Natural, well-manicured fingernails no longer than ¼ inch beyond fingertip
- No open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on hands, forearms, or cuticles
- Scrubs provided
- Manager emphasizes quality work and provides feedback; adaptability to workflows and policies is expected
This opportunity is ideal for NICU RNs with solid Level II experience who are comfortable with delivery attendance and neonatal stabilization in a specialized nursery setting.
