Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Shift: Day shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 5:15 PM)
- Rooms: 23 operating rooms
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend shift per month
- On-Call: Yes, approximately 1 time per week (may be less frequent)
- Floating: Rarely, only within skill set to meet facility needs
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live at least 50 miles from facility
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience
- First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting preferred
- Must have experience with all service lines except Cardiovascular (CV)
- Required case experience includes:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Emergency management skills including code response, fire safety, latex allergy management, and malignant hyperthermia
- Equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
- Professional knowledge: Administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, urinary bladder catheterization
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Trauma experience

- Parking permit required, no cost
Additional Notes
- All requested time off must be approved by manager
- Up to 36 hours of call-off allowed per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
- Mandatory completion of computer-based learning modules before orientation
- Candidates must comply with Illinois-specific background and registry checks, including fingerprinting within Illinois
