Description
Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- 22 beds (16 rooms), average daily census: 20
- Adult and geriatric patients
- Common cases: burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, gynecology, ENT, oral/maxillofacial surgeries
- Special procedures: burn dressings, flap checks, leech therapy
Shift Details
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other or every third weekend required
- Floating within the hospital system required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with similar patient population
- Previous charge RN experience
- Teaching hospital experience
Required Competencies & Certifications
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually; minimum passing score 76%)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
- NURSYS license verification (RN) within 30 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable per unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
Documentation & Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if driving required
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation confirmation required immediately after contract signing
- Background checks for EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitored monthly
- Fingerprinting results must be reviewed including dismissed charges; additional documentation may be required for adjudication of charges
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length; onsite fit testing available if needed)
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; annual TB questionnaire required
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella (boosters required if low titer)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted (medical exemption must be documented and approved)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Notes
- Parking permits available with various options (costs subject to change)
- Background check and fingerprinting processes are time-sensitive and require strict adherence to facility-specific codes and procedures
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts signed after 11/7/24
