Registered Nurse (LDRP) - Illinois
Job Details
- Location: Freeport, Illinois
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour shifts, days and nights
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other to every third weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Work half of the holidays, alternating each year
- Call Requirement: Yes, 1-2 shifts per 6-week period (can be split into 4-hour blocks), with 30 minutes call-back time
- Floating: Only in critical need situations, to assist as helping hands/sitter, no full patient assignments
- Department Orientation: Up to 3 shifts
Unit Information
- Department: Labor and Delivery (LDRP)
- Beds:
- Labor & Delivery: 7 beds
- Postpartum: 7 beds
- Triage: 2 beds
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 1
- Annual Births: Approximately 255
- Nurse Staffing: Self-staffed unit with scheduling committee involvement
- Support Staff: 2 day shift unit secretaries/CNAs primarily for clerical and assisting roles
- OB/Neonatologist Coverage: In-house 24/7 (OB hospitalists mostly in-house; pediatric coverage not in-house)
- Anesthesia Coverage: In-house weekdays day shift; on-call within 30 minutes other times
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Available, RT attends if complications arise
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Remote monitoring techs read strips; nurses do not monitor remotely
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring System: OBIX
Patient Population and Care
- Common Diagnoses: Labor, preeclampsia, hypertension, obesity, gestational diabetes, preterm labor (≥32 weeks/1500 grams)
- Neonatal Care: Babies can be on oxygen up to 6 hours; transfer if no improvement or need for more support
- Procedures: Care includes labor and delivery, OR circulating and recovery, couplet care post-recovery, and clean gynecological surgeries (e.g., hysterectomies vaginal/abdominal)
- Drip Titration: RNs required to titrate drips such as Pitocin and Insulin
Required Qualifications
- Illinois RN license required
- Minimum 1 year of LDRP nursing experience; Labor & Delivery experience is a must
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN intermediate or advanced certification
Additional Information
- Scrub Color: Hospital-provided scrubs and waterproof non-slip shoes
- Experience with AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor role available as a rounder with full assignment but lower acuity
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
