Job Description
- Assist in preparing for and during surgery by performing routine and delegated duties according to department and hospital standards and policies to ensure quality patient care.
- Focus areas include cardiac, spine, robotics, and vascular surgeries.
Shift Details
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (40 hours/week)
- Variable start times between 6:45 AM and 1:00 PM
- Weekends included in schedule rotation
- On-call required
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification
- Experience as a Cardiac Sonographer
- Experience as a Vascular Technologist
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including social security trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks as applicable
- Education verification required unless highest education is high school
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work and any work restrictions documented
- Fit test for approved masks within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination during flu season
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually
- Color vision exam required if applicable (in-person exam only)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for clinical/allied/per diem acute care candidates
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years
Certifications and Competencies
- CST licensure (NBSTSA)
- BLS (AHA)
- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, CCRN, TNCC, or others may be required depending on position specifics (verify with manager)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
Facility Specific Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign facility policies and documents prior to start, including standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, dress code, and regulatory orientation
- TB screening questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider (MD, PA, NP/APN, DO, or RN) within 90 days of start
- Conditional offers and background check attestations handled on a case-by-case basis; no conditional clearances allowed at certain facilities
- Religious exemption requests for facial hair and vaccines require approval and specific documentation
