Description
Physical Therapist - Home Health (Travel/Contract)
Location: Largo, Maryland
Job Overview
- Provide physical therapy services through home visits with periodic office meetings.
- Average caseload: 5-6 patients per day, typically 5-10 patients assigned daily.
- Types of cases: Start of Care and Follow Ups.
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hour shifts).
- Contract length: Approximately 13 weeks.
- Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic, covering Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. Estimated travel about 200 miles per week. Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate (patient-to-patient travel compensated; commute to/from first and last patient is not billable).
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Physical Therapist license in Maryland.
- Minimum 1 year of recent Physical Therapist experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adult patients in a Home Health setting.
- BLS certification.
Work Environment & Expectations
- No guaranteed hours; if patient census is low, floating to a nearby clinic may be arranged.
- Weekend work and on-call requirements vary by location; discuss during interview.
- Use of EMR systems: Pointcare and HCHB.
- Productivity expectations and points system based on visits, documentation, and travel.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks covering the last 7 years, including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific searches.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test required.
- Health documents: Physical exam within 12 months, negative TB test or chest X-ray, immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, seasonal flu vaccination or declination, and COVID vaccination or declination.
- Fingerprinting required as per state regulations.
- Education verification for degree applicable to Physical Therapy.
- Work history verification for at least two most recent employers or last 7 years.
- Two professional references required.
- Completion of various compliance trainings and policy acknowledgements prior to start, including but not limited to:
- HIPAA and Privacy Policy
- Code of Conduct
- Compliance Training Certification
- Home Health Core Policy and Scenarios
- Confidentiality and Employee Responsibility Agreements
- COVID-19 Policy and Attestation
- TB Questionnaire
- Personal or auto insurance policy must be current and under the candidate’s name or list the candidate as a driver.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must sign new supplier packets at the start of each assignment and annually if working more than one consecutive year.
- Some positions may have alternative shift schedules (e.g., 4x10s Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8s Monday-Friday.
- On-call and weekend requirements vary; confirm during interview.
This position is ideal for experienced Physical Therapists with recent adult home health experience who are comfortable with travel and working independently in patients’ homes.
