CVOR Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Columbus, Ohio


Job Details

  • Position: CVOR Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Combination of 2 eight-hour and 2 twelve-hour shifts per 4-week cycle, generally between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, including call hours
  • Hours per Week: 40 hours (variable scheduling with call)
  • Call Requirements:
    • Call begins at 7 PM on weekdays
    • Weekend call required in 12-hour blocks
    • Call hours distributed equitably among staff and may vary monthly
  • Charting System: EPIC

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, and Transplant nursing experience

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be current and renewed as applicable)

Licensure

  • Valid, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Required to complete background attestations and compliance forms prior to start
  • Fingerprinting must be completed and cleared before or at start; pending fingerprint attestations accepted under specific conditions

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) valid within 1 year of assignment end date; onsite fit testing available if needed
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination is recommended but not required

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams as required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Must be flexible with shift scheduling and call duties
  • Parking permits available for purchase (costs and options subject to change)
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac and CVOR RNs comfortable with trauma-level care, flexible scheduling, and call responsibilities in a high-acuity surgical environment.
