Description

Job Opportunity: PCU Float Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Float Pool during night shifts.
  • May be required to float to another affiliated hospital within a 5–6 minute walk.
  • Floating may include units of equivalent or lower acuity.
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiac PCU - Progressive Care Unit.
  • Cardiac PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
  • Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment).
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear before or at start; pending results require attestation.

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment (check with recruiter).

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application required, including education details.
  • Skills checklist must be completed.
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form must be signed.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.

Parking and Commute

  • No commute required between affiliated hospitals (walking distance).
  • Various parking permit options available (costs subject to change).

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating between units, and working in a telemetry/PCU environment with EPIC documentation.
