Registered Nurse – Medical Acute Care

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: Medical Acute Care Unit (20 beds)

Job Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shift: 1:5 or 1:6
• Charge nurse present 24/7; ideally no patient assignment but may take one if short-staffed
• House supervisor available 24/7
• Patient care technicians (PCTs) on unit 24/7 with ratios:

  • Day: 1 PCT per 6-7 patients
  • Night: 1 PCT per 10 patients
• Telemetry monitors used (Phillips brand); monitor techs read strips, bedside RNs do not
• No ventilator equipment on unit
• Common patient types: General medical diagnoses
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: 3 out of 6 holidays annually
• Call/standby depends on hospital staffing needs
• Floating: Travel RNs float first; otherwise rotation based on last who floated
• Scrub color: No preference, scrubs not provided
• Orientation: 3 days unit/department specific
• Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
• Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Notes

• Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
• Preference for candidates with general medical or surgical experience
• Local candidates within 50 miles may have adjusted conditions (not pay-related)
