Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Assist in preparing for and during surgery by performing routine and delegated duties according to department and hospital standards to ensure quality patient care.
- Experience with vascular, transplant, ophthalmology, spine, robotic, and cardiac surgeries is ideal.
- On-call required.
- Shift schedule: 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts with variable start times between 6:45 AM and 1:00 PM; weekends included in rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- High school diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or an equivalent educational qualification.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including social security trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification (unless highest education is high school), and FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List searches required as applicable.
- Education verification required; official transcripts/diplomas accepted if verification attempts unsuccessful.
- Sex offender search must be run within 90 days of start.
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical candidates.
Certifications and Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on position.
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification) may be required based on position specifics.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
- Medication and competency exams as applicable to profession.
- ICU and MS/Telemetry RNs may be required to take EKG competency exams onsite after start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually; exemptions and failed tests handled case-by-case.
- Negative TB test (QGold, TSPOT, or PPD) within 90 days of start; must be renewed annually.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- Color blindness exam required if applicable, must be in-person.
- Respiratory safety clearance required and must be renewed annually.
Facility Specific Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign facility policies and documents prior to start, including:
- Job description acknowledgment
- Standards of business conduct
- Vendor training
- Code of conduct
- Overpayment refund policy
- General regulatory orientation for contracted workers
- Dress code policy
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine exemptions; approvals handled case-by-case.
Work Schedule
- 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts.
- Variable start times between 6:45 AM and 1:00 PM.
- Weekend shifts included in rotation.
- On-call duties required.
