Description
Surgical Tech - Travel Contract
Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Surgical Tech for a travel assignment in a hospital setting with 7 OR suites performing 15-20 cases daily. The caseload includes a high volume of orthopedic cases (total joints), general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and ophthalmology. Cardiac cases are performed but travelers will not be assigned to these.
Work Schedule
- 8-hour day shifts with variable start times (schedule set by manager)
- Weekend call requirement: one weekend call per month
- Call nights: one call night per week with a 30-minute response time
- Holidays worked only in emergencies
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (2 years of experience)
- Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- BLS
- CST
Additional Information
- EMR system: Cerner Surginet
- Scrub color and supplies provided
- Charge nurse available but not 24/7
- No floating between units
- Floor-specific orientation based on skillset
- Sterile processing techs must have BLS and IAHCSMM certification (if applicable)
- Equipment used includes autoclave (Steris & V-pro)
- RT coverage 24/7; pharmacy coverage limited after hours
Call and On-Call Details
- Surgeon on call 24/7
- Call response time: 30 minutes
- Weekend and call night requirements apply to CSTs
Case Types
- Orthopedic (total joints)
- General surgery
- Gynecology
- Pediatrics
- Ophthalmology (no experience needed)
- Cardiac cases performed but not assigned to travelers (includes open heart, carotid endarterectomies, TAVRs)
