Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced ER Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 56 beds (expandable to 60-70 with hall beds). The ER includes a fast track area (6 beds), a separate triage area (5 beds), and an 18-bed holding area for inpatients awaiting placement. The unit also has a locked psychiatric/seclusion area with 6 private treatment rooms.
Patient Population & Work Environment
- Average patient volume: 170-200 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 (1:4 for low acuity)
- Common patient diagnoses: Cardiac, Stroke, Sepsis, DKA, Altered Mental Status, Respiratory issues, Abdominal pain, Mental Health
- ED Physicians and Mid-Level Providers available
- Support staff includes ED Techs, CNAs, and 1:1 sitters provided by inpatient staff
- In-house security present
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience (travelers with 1 year experience in larger trauma settings may be considered)
- Active Washington State RN license or Compact License
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS or ENPC
- Ability to manage ER holds and participate in triage testing if assigned
Orientation & Training
- Orientation includes 1 day (8-10 hours) of compliance, policies, education, and training
- 2nd day (12 hours) department-specific orientation
- Orientation/education hours not guaranteed during first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours
Shift & Scheduling
- Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: must work holidays in November/December; manager may consider 1 holiday off if unit demands allow
- No floating required
- No call or standby requirement; extra shifts available but not mandatory
- Scheduling based on department needs and traveler shift patterns
- No return to orientation (RTO) considered during first full week of assignment
Clinical & Technical Details
- Electronic Medical Record: Epic
- Respiratory Therapy equipment managed by RTs (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
- ED Techs perform EKGs; RTs perform ABGs and breathing treatments
- Telemetry monitors present; RNs read strips
- Radiology (X-Ray, CT) adjacent to ED with transport assistance available
- Phlebotomy primarily by nurses or ED Techs; lab assists with difficult draws
Dress Code
- Professional colors allowed; no specific scrub color required
Additional Notes
- Manager cannot accommodate same schedules/shifts for multiple travelers (DUOs)
- No return to orientation (RTO) during first full week
- Night shift and every other weekend schedule expected
