Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Oncology
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:15 AM – 6:45 PM)
  • Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float within scope as needed
  • Schedule: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Locals accepted with no radius restrictions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Chemotherapy administration skills including IV push, continuous infusion, and oral administration
  • Chemotherapy-related body fluid handling and cytotoxic spill management/disposal
  • Chemotherapy monitoring and recognition/communication of abnormal lab values
  • IV therapy and infusion skills including accessing ports, central line blood draws, central line/implanted line care, and PICC line care
  • Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals
  • Blood and blood product administration
  • Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs

Certifications

  • Chemotherapy certification (mandatory)
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications as required by unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)

  • Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Magnet designated facility
  • Total staffed beds: 562
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any solid color allowed
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, or equivalent
  • Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, and others)

Background & Verification

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • State-specific searches including Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and Violent Offender registries within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting required in Illinois for clinical candidates without an IL license, completed 3 business days prior to start
  • Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Two professional references required

Additional Notes

  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
  • Guaranteed hours policy allows client to cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
  • Badge photo required within one week of signing contract (color photo, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
  • Candidates must complete computer-based learning modules before or on first day of orientation
  • Code of conduct must be reviewed and signed within 7 days of contract signing
  • Parking permit form must be completed within 7 days of contract signing if applicable

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity oncology setting within a Magnet-designated, Level I trauma acute care hospital. The role requires strong chemotherapy and IV therapy skills, with a supportive environment for travel nurses including acceptance of first-timers and flexible scheduling discussions.
